What is the secret to creating engaging content that will encourage people to subscribe and increase your views? In one of our previous articles we talked about B2B Marketing for Youtube, and now we will dive into understanding the YouTube Analytics data. 

In analytics there is a lot you can go around with, but we will focus on few of the most important pieces of data. If you click into your YouTube Analytics account you go to your Overview page, which contains:

  • Watch time
  • Average view duration
  • Views
  • Estimated revenue if you have ads setup on your videos
  • Basic engagement data (likes, dislikes, comments, shares, videos on playlists, subscribers)
  • Your top ten videos including their basic analytics 
  • Top demographics with information about where people are watching, where they are coming from, their gender and their playback location (page, device, another website etc.)

Understanding Your YouTube Analytics Stats

Like every other analytical tool, on YouTube there are a lot of ways you can filter what type of information you are shown and from what time period. One of the things you would always want to do is just check your lifetime performance and see if you are heading in the right direction and in an upward trend. Basically if you don’t see that upward trend then you have to do something differently. Here are a few ways you can utilize analytics to improve your YouTube channel performance and overall digital marketing strategy, that works for all company types. 

If you are making videos on different topics look and see which are the ones that drive the most traffic, get the most watch time, make the most money and make more videos like that.

Another stat to take into account is traffic sources. In your advanced mode view, you can see “Source of traffic”. Scroll down to Youtube search and click it. There you will see which terms people are searching for to find your videos. Use this data to improve your Youtube content – titles, descriptions, tags, playlists.

The demographic stat – here you see information about males and females, and age range. The data from this should be used to affect the personality of your videos, the tone, the way that you talk, and you have to adjust and change your videos. Use this to see who is your viewer and how to better serve this viewer, but also see who isn’t your viewer and how you can potentially open up your brand to them.

Explore your keyword options. Google trends is a perfect tool to use to find trending topics within a specific subject. Ahrefs also offers the ability to search keywords for free. You can also utilize Google autocomplete and so on. Basically it’s all about finding out what’s right for you and doing more of it. 

Some more useful tips:

Get more subscribers 

  • Add the text ?sub_confirmation=1 to the end of your YouTube channel URL will add a subscribe pop up box to all visitors of your channel.
  • Create custom banner and logo
  • Write a thorough and optimized description of your brand and channel, with a CTA and a link to your website
  • Organize your content in playlists according to subject
  • Share videos out to other video platforms, social media channels, email lists, websites, blogs, influencers, leverage search engine marketing, etc.
  • Run small ad campaigns across multiple channels and platforms for quicker results.

Connect with your audience

  • Add a channel trailer that will tell your audience what the channel is about, how often you will be posting new videos, the benefit people will be getting from your channel, has a CTA to subscribe and mentions your website address. Show your audience if you have this other option where all your services and products that you can offer to your viewers.
  • Use relevant tags 
  • Eye-catching video thumbnails
  • Keyword optimized titles and descriptions for all videos, including a CTA that will lead your viewers to your main site or offers.
  • Showcase your expertise by creating engaging and informative videos about your brand, products, services and experience.

Utilize YouTube Analytics Data

  • Use the YouTube Analytics information to build more engaging content that connects with your targeted audience
  • Optimize your video library for search engines using the data from organic searches queries, their synonyms and common misspelled words
